After having been in the industry for 15 years, we discovered that there was a better way to do furniture consignment.

Curate Consignments, as you see her today, is an upscale furniture and accessory store chock-full of wonderful things that have been collected and loved by our consignees over the years. For one reason or another, the owners of these treasures have dropped them off at this outfittings orphanage, and each one is waiting to be adopted and taken home.

Our store really began in the 1950’s in Denver when my great-grandmother Pearl taught my mother to sew kitchen curtains out of dish towels, wallpaper a bathroom with pretty pages from Better Homes & Gardens and the Ladies’ Home Journal, and sew pillows and chair covers with second-hand clothing purchased at the Goodwill in downtown Denver.

In the early 1980’s I would sit under the fabric sample racks at Calico Corner, or help my mother flip through wallpaper books at Wallpapers to Go in Houston. It was just not unusual for my father and me to sleep on air mattresses for a few nights while Mom was painting our bedrooms at night so that we could flip one house or another. In total, we bought, renovated, and sold twenty-seven houses in my first twenty-five years of life and to others, it probably seemed nuts. But I wouldn’t change it for a thing.

When I was attending CSU I worked at two home furnishings stores in Fort Collins, and my first entrepreneurial endeavor was Eastham Interiors & Home Collections on Mitchell Drive. It was three thousand square feet of lovely Norwalk furniture, Thibaut wallpapers, Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan, candles and soaps from New York, Spode china, rugs imported from India. But Fort Collins was not Houston, and after a long visit to Houston in 2016 I came home with a new business model, one I was sure would be just what Fort Collins would love.

And that is when Curate Consignments was born. We are ten thousand square feet of pristine sofas, chairs, dining, and occasional tables, lighting, art, rugs, and more. Every week the store changes .. because the people of Northern Colorado really do like pretty things but at less than half the price of brand new items.
